This CE module provides an in-depth look at the foundations of the economic evidence from worksite wellness program evaluations. Beginning with contextual issues in economic analysis including economic return, ROI and NPV. The five economic variables that wellness can affect include: health plan costs, sick leave costs, workers’ compensation costs, disability insurance costs and presenteeism costs. Overview of major summary studies on the economic return of worksite wellness are presented along with a major meta-analysis performed by a group of Harvard researchers. In addition, the underlying epidemiology of health risk prevalence and health costs are explored as is a reasonable set of expectations for the results of these types of programs. The primary implication of this CE module is that there is a very large and credible basis of evidence for the economic return of corporate wellness programs.
