This Chapman Institute exclusive white paper provides updated 2012 HERO data on the risk premium cost associated with 8 major risk factors.  This data is very useful in projecting the economic return from reduction in clinical and health behavior risk factors in populations. It can be used with the “Economic Conversion of Risk Prevalence” method for determining economic return of Worksite Wellness programs. The original 1996 HERO data has been updated to 2012 by using the medical trend data contained in the Mercer Employer Health Survey. The difference between a high risk and low risk person with the following health risk factors in 2012 dollars are now available for depression, stress, blood glucose, body weight, tobacco, blood pressure, lack of exercise, and elevated cholesterol.
