This CE module examines the very important relationship that exists between health risks (both clinical and behavioral) and health care costs. Beginning with the 5 major types of health cost employers bear: health plan cost, sick leave absenteeism cost, workers’ compensation cost, disability insurance costs and presenteeism cost, an economic perspective is suggested.
The primary implication of this CE module is that selected health risk factors are one of the few remaining methods for significantly reducing population health costs.
