This report from The Economist provides chronic disease prevention strategies for working populations. This set of strategies for chronic disease prevention is important to worksite wellness programs. The focus is in particular on measures to prevent and manage chronic diseases, since these have the greatest impact on the health of older Europeans. The research considers the effects of poor co-ordination among healthcare providers, governments, civil society, private employers and the public on making the necessary changes to the healthcare system to improve the healthy longevity of both individuals and the system. It identifies best practice initiatives in prevention, early intervention and management of chronic diseases that can contribute to healthy ageing. In addition, it highlights effective ways to shift the focus from reactive, hospital-based care of the sick towards a proactive, preventive and patient-centered approach to improving health.  Published: 2012
